P.S. 1 Charter School Position: Academic and Social/Emotional Counselor

 

P.S. 1 is currently seeking a a counselor for the 2008 – 2009 school year.  To learn more about P.S. 1’s vision, mission, programming, staff, and other information about the oldest charter school in Denver, please go to our website at www.ps1charterschool.org.

 

The specific responsibilities of the position include:

• Work with records secretary and advisors to create and maintain transcripts
• Teach a course to all juniors on post-secondary options
• Liaison to Auraria campus for students attending college courses
• Work with advisors around scheduling and drop/add
• Work with Seniors to complete college applications and scholarships
• Liaison to colleges
• Facilitate and/or coordinate with outside agencies to provide social/emotional and academic groups (for example empowerment, job readiness, grief)
• Support school social worker in providing social/emotional support to individual students.
• Participate in the Student Support and Culture Teams
• Work with outside organization to connect advisors and students with opportunites and services
• Attend student enrollment fairs and events

Required qualifications

• Degree in counseling

• Strength in detail oriented work
• Background in school counseling
• Experience in an alternative school setting
• Creative, pro-active approach
• Knowledge of Denver resources
• Knowledge of a variety of educational and emotional disabilities
• Strong ability to connect with a diverse student population

Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.  The position is full time with salary and benefits comparable to other metro Denver public school districts.
